Directions to CASTLE MATAKANA
Luxury B&B Accommodation, Matakana, Warkworth, Auckland, New Zealand

From Auckland Airport follow the signs initially towards Auckland City and then take the Motorway (Freeway) State Highway 1 Northbound across the Auckland Harbour Bridge going north towards the Bay of Islands ( Whangarei will be the city name you will see going over the Auckland Harbour Bridge). We suggest you take the Toll section as its less than $3 and speeds things up. If its busy or you are running late you don't need to stop for the toll but can sort it out later.
Continue past Orewa to Warkworth, approx 45 minutes north of Auckland and at the third of three sets of traffic lights on SH1 at Warkworth, at a bizarre intersection, turn right and keeping to the left lane on Matakana Rd, follow the sign to Leigh / Goat Island / Omaha/ Tawharanui .
From Warkworth proceed about 11 kms to a roundabout at Matakana, and continue straight over and then a further 1 km on the road towards Leigh. Then at the 2nd road on the right after Matakana, turn right into Takatu Rd (which is signed to Omaha / Pt Wells/ Tawharanui). Some 100 metres in front of you is another roundabout and a vineyard called Providence and our small sign to "The CASTLE MATAKANA 4kms" has unfortunately been removed. However just go right at the roundabout and continue along and up Takatu Rd about 1.5km and take 1st right, with care, along Whitmore Road signed to Buckleton Beach. 2.4 kms on the left and you will be here! (The last 100m or so is unsealed)
For overseas visitors, two small anomalies of NZ road code that you may not be aware
of,
1. you may overtake in the left lane when on the motorways, although
traffic on the right has precedence and should
indicate lane change for 3
secs prior.
2. When turning left at intersections, give way to traffic turning right and in
front of you.
........(and of course we do drive on the left
side of the road!).
