Wine enthusiasts can easily while away an afternoon in the  Matakana area on winery  visits and tastings. The Antipodean  pioneered the planting of classical grapes at Matakana. Ever more new vineyard plantings are coming into production to follow the successes that are now also being achieved by  Heron's Flight, Hyperion, Ransom, Ascension, Brick Bay and Matakana Estate.
